THE JOY OF INEFFICIENCY

Not everything needs to be optimized. We are constantly trying to optimize our lives—our routines, our efficiency, our health goals. But the relentless need to be efficient sucks the joy out of life. This week, we embrace the Joy of Inefficiency. It means taking a walk without a step tracker, reading a book without a completion deadline, or cooking a meal just for fun, not for meal prep. Your soul needs space for simple enjoyment.
The '15-Minute Joy Task': Schedule 15 minutes this week for an activity that has zero productive outcome. Just purely for enjoyment. Call it 'Wasted Time' if you must, but allow yourself to savor every inefficient second of it.
I've learned that joy is often a choice—and sometimes we simply need small reminders to make space for it in our everyday lives. One thing I like to do is place little notes around my house with encouraging messages that gently shift my mindset during the day.
So I created a printable page of “Joy Notes” that you can cut out and place anywhere you'll see them—your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, desk, computer, or even in your car. Sometimes the smallest reminders can gently change how we move through our day.
And since it's a Word document, feel free to customize the messages if you'd like and make them your own. Use them as simple reminders that you have permission to enjoy your life.
Mindful Minis

Visual Self-Care
Take two minutes to make your drink look appealing (add ice, a lemon wedge, or a nice cup). The visual appeal is a small form of self-care and enjoyment.

Non-Critical Sorting
Use your phone's photo library to organize old photos for 5 minutes. No goal other than simple sorting—it’s a non-critical way to spend time.

Yawn & Sigh Reset
The 'Yawn and Sigh' reset: Intentionally let out a deep yawn and a loud sigh (like a release of tension). Do this a few times to physically signal relaxation to your brain. Check out this vid: https://youtube.com/shorts/zrPPdILXF_I?si=sYNA-Z5o79ByG-Al
WEEKLY RESET
Reflection
My Joy Task: What is the one non-productive activity I will schedule 15 minutes for this week?
Y’all, I now end my work day by playing Spades on the Spill App for 1 hour! It’s amazing what virtual Spades has done for my relaxation.
My Inefficient Moment: When will I consciously slow down an already simple task (like making coffee or walking) just to enjoy the process?
I take 30 min walks without my phone. I don’t need to know what is going on every minute…. If work calls me, I’ll call them back. (when I finish my walk and see that they called)

Affirmation
I embrace the joy in my moments, regardless of productivity. My worth is not measured by efficiency, and I create space for simple pleasure in my life.
Prayer
Lord, you are my joy. You have made it possible for me to know what it is and how to keep it. Thank you God!
I embrace the joy in my moments, regardless of productivity. My worth is not measured by efficiency, and I create space for simple pleasure in my life. Amen!
